Born near Stuttgart, grew up in Nigeria, studied in Berlin – it is above all the collections of her label in which the designer deals with the very different cultures that have shaped her.
BUKI AKOMOLAFE is a balance between classic European tailoring and traditional craftsmanship and the techniques of West Africa.
Buki has been producing her iconic collections by hand in her studio and a small factory in Berlin since 2016. Only ecologically organic materials such as certified cotton, organic hemp silk and African wax prints are used. Buki Akomolafe experienced the more conscious use and appreciation of resources in her early childhood at the side of her father in Africa, who founded the Village Pioneer Project (VPP) there with training centers for agriculture and handicrafts.
Buki is committed to the “Rollis for Africa” project. She gives sewing courses and holds workshops at schools to give young people a feeling for fabrics, cuts and the value of a garment.
